Along the brackish margins of the Solway Basin, where the tide resets the landscape twice daily, old Samuel tends to the tide-clocks and evaporation pans of a forgotten coastal station. When a strange, mineralized cylinder washes ashore containing centuries-old weather forecasts that predict events yet to happen, Samuel and his apprentice Maeve must decipher the almanac before the highest spring tide of the century swallows the marsh whole.
