The village girl

SCENE 1: EARLY MORNING IN UMUOFIA VILLAGE It was 5:30 a.m. in a small village called Umuofia. Birds were singing, women were sweeping their compounds, and farmers were preparing for their daily activities. Inside a small mud house lived a beautiful 19-year-old girl named Amara. Amara lived with her parents, who were very poor. Every morning, she woke up early to fetch water, sweep the compound and prepare breakfast. Mama Amara: Amara! Amara! Where are you? Amara: Mama, I'm coming! I'm at the stream! Mama Amara: Please hurry up. Your father needs his breakfast. Amara: Okay, Mama!
